Honors "opt-out"/"opt-in" letter for Earth and Environmental Science
Honors-level "extension assignments" (as mentioned in the "Honors opt-out letter" linked above):

The rigorous expectations of the Honors-level of Earth and Environmental Science will require students to complete and be successful on differentiated tests and quizzes as well as other daily assignments. Honors students will also complete a variety of additional extension assignments per unit, and some independent research and project work. For example, for our first unit – “Introduction to the Earth” – students will be expected to demonstrate mastery of all core course content AND complete the following extension assignments:
For the Spring 2020 semester, these projects must be completed and submitted to Mr. Edwards by the beginning of the school day on Monday, February 10.
To help students plan for these additional assignments, use this document about the expectations for these extension assignments.
Your "home experiment" should be documented using photos and video, as well as written observations and data tables. Your final product should be a
slideshow that includes the steps of the Scientific Method, evidence of you actually conducting the experiment, and the data collected in order to draw a
conclusion. It should be submitted to Mr. Edwards online (share with [email protected]) by the beginning of school on Monday, February 10.
Please bring the three News articles you have chosen to class on Monday, February 10. You should have already read these articles and written a brief
summary in your own words. Mr. Edwards will take time that day in class to show you how to properly submit these Current Event News articles, and
explain how they connect to an ongoing semester-long project you will work on in this course.

- Plan, carry out, and document an at-home experiment, including a digital product to show the procedure, data collected, results, and possible conclusions that can be drawn from these results.
- Collect, analyze, and share at least three current News articles that represent different aspects of Earth and Environmental Science, how the Earth and its systems work, and important global environmental issues.
